Initially, incompetence must be established before a guardian can be appointed. Summit County Probate Court is the "Superior Guardian" and appoints all legal guardians and monitors all guardianships to protect personal and medical interests of the ward.
The Volunteer Guardian Program provides training at your convenience prior to your appointment. Once you submit a completed application, we will schedule an interview and training session with you. Upon completion of your background check, you will be assigned a guardianship case. Our entire staff is dedicated to providing on-going training and support to our volunteers.
"As a retiree, becoming a Volunteer Guardian has given me a whole new outlook on being able to be the voice for those in their later years...If you want to give back, this program is for you. You will never regret it!" -- Char B.
